Sli Day 5: The Call in your life
To be a pilgrim or a seeker is to be open to how we are being called forward. Colmcille certainly heard the call of Jesus and responded, day by day?
How does Jesus call?
In the case of the fishermen in Galilee he walked up and said: ‘Come follow me!” They left their nets and followed.
With the woman at the well in Samaria it started with an unexpected request:
In our modern lives, we often experience a divine presence who is trying to communicate with us. We are urged to let go of hurts, to accept the past, to live in the now, and to trust in the future. Intellectually it can be hard to figure out but emotionally it feels like love, freely given and waiting to be received.
Desire: I want to know more about this source of love and compassion in my life. I want to cooperate with this plan for me, that gives meaning and indicates a direction and a way to move forward.
Readings:
1. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer. 29:11
2. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a]) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” …
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
