For centuries pilgrims have followed the holy footsteps of religious visionaries around the world in search of their own spiritual enlightenment. One of the most influential figures to spread Christianity was St. Columba or Colmcille, a 6th century Irish monk who was born in Gartan in 521 AD and later travelled extensively throughout Ireland and Scotland establishing monasteries while spreading the word of Christ.
His legacy still shines brightly today and to celebrate his 1500th birthday, the pilgrimages, paths and major sites associated with his incredible story are being connected. Slí Cholmcille, or St. Columba’s Way, is a new, exciting and ambitious pilgrimage close to home, a getaway to some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring parts of the world.
